Dos Pasos Ranch

PRODUCTS

AVOCADOS: We grow primarily Hass avocados which are harvested from May until December. Other varieties include Bacon and Zutano in the spring and Fuerte, Pinkerton, Reed and Nabal available as they become mature during the course of the summer and fall. Our mild climate and very long growing season make for delicious avocados.

LISBON LEMONS: This lemon is a sour lemon with thicker rinds. These lemons are more frost tolerant and are grown in the colder area of the ranch. We tree ripen the lemons and are able to pick for at least eight months of the year. All of our citrus is tree ripened and sold fresh without wax for good flavor and great zest.

MEYER LEMONS: This lemon is a sweet lemon with a thin skin. There are about two crops per year. Look for these lemons at the farmers’ markets and on the roadside stand in the spring.

BEARSS LIMES: This fruit is produced almost all year around. The limes turn yellow as they ripen and have a green juice with excellent flavor.

MANDARIN ORANGES: We are testing several varieties of mandarins and tangerines. These are available at our roadside stand in the spring and early summer.

NAVEL ORANGES: We are growing several varieties of navel oranges which mature in the summer in our area. Therefore, we can offer a good local eating orange when other major navel orange producing areas have finished harvesting.

PRICKLY PEARS AND NOPALES: Nopales or cactus paddles, the green pads of the cactus plant, are available at the farm and at the farmers’ markets from April until about September. The fruit of the cactus, known as prickly pears or cactus apples, is harvested from late August until the first major rains in November. Look for the fruit and lemonade made with prickly pear juice at the farmers’ markets in the fall.

Halloween in Paris Pumpkin

HEIRLOOM PUMPKINS AND WINTER SQUASH: Each year we grow many varieties of pumpkins and winter squash. Most are good to eat and the rest are just wonderful to look at. We try a few new ones each year and our friends and neighbors taste them to give us feedback. The list of favorites is lengthening and we plant them each year. During the fall harvest season we are open at the farm 9 to 5 daily from September 15 to October 31. We have small and large decorative pumpkins and jack o’lanterns as well as heirloom squash which come in all shapes and sizes. These products are also available at farmers’ markets but join us at the farm for the best selection.

GOURDS: We grow different varieties of hard shelled gourds. The gourds are available fresh out of the field in the fall or already dried for sale to crafters. We also clean and dye gourds as decorations which will last for years in your house. The finished gourds are available at the ranch or at farmers’ markets. Please call or email us for an appointment to view dried and/or finished gourds.

SUNFLOWERS: During the late summer and fall months we sell bunches of cutting sunflowers with mixed autumn colors. The bouquets are available at farmers’ markets and sometimes at the roadside stand. The flowers will last at least one week and most do not produce pollen.
